My Superpower: The ability to understand new digital technologies on a deep level and their potential impacts on people and society.
Important Skills: Design Thinker, Artist, Teacher
Background: I love technology and visual culture. Both have fascinated me since I saw a computer for the first time. This long term interest has led me to become a Professor of Digital Art & Design and am currently employed at Hartwick College. In this capacity I research new digital technologies and consider how they work, and their potential impact and disseminate the information to my students.
History: My undergraduate education was in photography and graphic design. In 1996 I started a photographic studio and darkroom in the Hampton’s on LI. In 1998 I added digital design and printing to my business. In 2001 I moved into web design and game programming with HTML and Macromedia’s Flash. From there I explored digital fabrication equipment including 3D printers, laser cutter/engravers and digital c-n-c routers. I teach and use design thinking to help come up with solutions for visual, social and business problems. Currently I am exploring the creation and potential uses of Augmented Reality in education, museums/galleries, and business.
Outside of work I enjoy unique vintage cars, creating tabletop games and playing music using Casio keyboards and guitar pedals and searching for fossils. I am currently showing my artwork and I am available for consultation on new digital technologies or to lead innovation sessions leading groups through the design thinking process.
